This weekend sees the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Finals taking place in Cape Town. And you're all invited!

After a year of competing online, the students from a variety of South African universities will head to the University of Cape Town on the 1st and 2nd of October to compete in Rocket League, FIFA22 and Clash Royale.

Varsity Rocket League has seen an intense rivalry between UCT and Stellenbosch in 2022, with the two going head-to-head in the ACGL UNI Winter Split. Historically, Stellenbosch has been the strongest team in tournaments this year, but it will be the first time Wits and a few other universities take them on in an event environment.

FIFA 22 was dominated in the last split by the Durban University of Technology, who secured the first and third spots on the ladder. Many universities have been holding training and qualifying events internally since then, with the players removing the online issues that have plagued some of the recent online tournaments.  

Clash Royale will see some of South Africa's powerful and highly-rated players competing. These include crowd favourites such as Tavish, AngelsAdvocate17 and Zero Two, but at the finals it could be anyone’s game. 

Group stages will commence on the Saturday at 10h00 and the final knock-out stages will commence on Sunday from 10h00. The FIFA 22 semi-finals and the finals will be streamed and casted by the magnificent Snare and Thendo.

Spectators are encouraged to attend and support their favourite teams. Entry is free to attendees and there will be a number of activities available to the public, as well as prizes.

COMPETE AND WIN

The options open to attendees on the weekend include:

  • Random draw open to all attendees: Random draw winner secures an ACGL Mousepad + Redragon Mouse.

  • The Redragon Keyboard Rebuild Race: Fastest rebuild of weekend will win a Redragon keyboard.

  • The POCO mobile stand: Compete and submit a score on one of the POCO demo phones and be entered into a random draw for a POCO mobile phone.

  • Fastest Lap: Set the fastest lap in F1 22 over the weekend and win a Redragon headset.
