COD:WWII Minor LAN | Three Cities. Three Winners.
This past weekend saw something a little unique and something perhaps never before achieved in South Africa. On one day, three cities hosted Call of Duty console LAN tournaments, with each seeing their winners walking off with cash and XP towards their ACGL seasonal ranking.
In Cape Town we partnered with MWEB GameZone to ensure the ten registered teams could play in comfort for the day. Johannesburg saw The Nexus play the consummate host to eight teams, while the four Port Elizabeth teams were hosted at Game On and facilitated by Plan-G.
All the tournaments saw the teams battle through a group phase into an elimination bracket, ensuring a pretty grueling day to ensure you could claim venue championship.
The top placed teams received cash prizes which were based on a sliding scale dependent on the number of entries per venue.
- Cape Town:
- Johannesburg:
- 1st: Stuyvesant | 2nd: Amuse | 3rd: 5050 COD
- Port Elizabeth:
- 1st: PE Gents | 2nd: New Dawn | 3rd: Omania WW2
SOME STATS
- Three Cities
- 22 Teams
- 62 Matches Played
- R6,000 in cash handed out
It was a great start to what will be just the first of many we plan to rollout in conjunction with our venue and operating partners, with varying titles each month. In March, you can expect FIFA 18 and fighting to feature in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth.
We would like to thank all the players, spectators, crew and partners that helped make the series of events a success. Without the support and belief, we would not have been able to pull it off.
