The African Cyber Gaming League (ACGL) is a South African based eSports company specialising in online and LAN tournament administration, management and broadcasting and was established in 2015.

The company is owned and operated by Nick ‘HoldenZA’ and Clinton ‘Zombie Dredd’ O’Shea from Clan Connection and Zombiegamer respectively. The pair has had a rich history of working together during the years prior to the formalisation of the company in early 2015, when ACGL was established to operate the MWEB GameZone Masters Series.

Since then, the pair has operated a number of other tournaments together, most notably the ASTRO Gaming Cup at rAge Cape Town in March 2016. The ongoing work together drove development on a number of concepts that includes the new tournament website, as well as a number of tournament ideas that will be revealed fully in the coming weeks and months. As operations grow, the organisation will add staff to operate key resources that will ensure the growth of local eSports and that tournaments operated match international standards.

The new website will connect players via tournaments, as well as ensuring a stopping point for all competitive players regardless of their preferred title or platform by offering news and updates on all eSports related actives in the South African and African scene.

This announcement marks the end of operations for Clan Connection – a bittersweet moment for ACGL co-owner Nick Holden: “The launch of ACGL marks the beginning of a new adventure and the end of a beloved organization in Clan Connection. We already have some exciting plans ahead, which we can’t wait to share with you all. ACGL – we are here to stay.”

ACGL will become the eSports standard while Zombiegamer will continue operation of its other more community and casual events. Clinton O’Shea says that “ACGL is an exciting development for me. It’s time to give South Africa and Africa an eSports home, and ACGL is that home.”

To celebrate the launch of the new site, ACGL will kick things off with a Halo 5 2v2 tournament which will offer R1,000 Raru vouchers to the top three teams as well as 2,000 XP which for now will count towards player and team seedings with more planned in the future for the system. Players and clans can register on the site, but it should be noted that users to the new tournament site might discover a few issues or bugs and we would appreciate it if you let us know if you spot anything.
