Samuel “Berzerk” Trace is an ex-convict working in a wood mill in central Germany. Although he committed his crimes at an early age, his name was forever tarnished. With one count of armed robbery and two counts of arson, many found it difficult to forgive him and move on. Samuel had a rough upbringing in Berlin, with his dad being a convict and his mom never being around. He kept himself busy with a small street gang called “The Loafers”. The gang was generally not into any serious crime and normally just caused havoc in the streets of Berlin. One fateful night saw the gang’s leader caught stealing by a shop clerk and pulled a gun on the owner. The young and impressionable Samuel helped the leader who robbed and burnt the store down. The fire was not contained to the store, and spread to two neighboring buildings, destroying them as well. Days later – consumed by guilt - he turned himself over to the police, and spent ten years in maximum security prison.

When the Scourge outbreak started, Samuel was busy working at the wood mill when a horde of Husks attacked the mill. Most of the workers did not survive the attack but Samuel and a small group of survivors were rescued by the German special forces. Samuel was recruited by The Accord and handpicked by Lenoire to join her recon unit.
