Diego Chavez is a Mexican chef working in Cape Town, South Africa. Diego was raised in a rough neighborhood in Mexico City with his mother, father and two brothers. His mother owned her own food truck that Diego used to help in after school every day. His father got caught up in gang life at an early age and was never able to get out of it. Both his brothers were much younger than him but Diego tried to keep them out of trouble growing up. As Diego got older his love for everything food related grew and he was encouraged by his mother to pursue a degree in culinary arts. Unfortunately, his father's gang life caught up with him and one night during a music and food festival a gang war started and both of Diego’s parents were killed. Diego tried to study and keep the food truck stable but he also had to take care of his brothers. Diego had to make tough decisions and fell into a gang. Over the course of a few years he worked his way through the ranks of the gang until he was a lieutenant and ran blocks of drug dealers and gangsters. Diego knew this was not the life he wanted for himself or his brothers, so one day he robbed his own gang, practically clearing them out and fleeing Mexico to South Africa. Diego opened a restaurant in South Africa and put his brothers into school.

When the Scourge started Diego and his brothers were barricaded inside their restaurant which was used as a safe house for anyone who needed it and later became an outpost for the ACGL Rebellion. Kara later convinced Diego to join the rebellion and help feed the residents of Cape Town who still survived in this hellish city.
